His pet frog mutates into a giant after a dose of radiation and jumps down a hole. So naturally, he follows, finds a tank, and starts blasting everything in his path to get it back.

My Mutant Frog: Notes 1 is the first pack in a two-part collection of NES-style 8-bit sample instruments inspired by the music of the game Blaster Master. This pack captures the instrument sounds associated with the adventurous, heroic tone of the game’s early stages, blending uplifting melodic themes with the faster, more aggressive energy that emerges as the journey moves deeper underground. It includes a variety of lead instruments, supportive bass, short stab patches, and a focused set of 8-bit drum samples designed for energetic, momentum-driven beats.

This pack contains:

  • 10 Instrument Patches
  • Formatted for Kontakt • Ableton Live • FL Studio • EXS24 / Sampler • Maschine • MPC • TAL-Sampler
  • 85 8-Bit Note Samples (lead, bass & stab)
  • 15 8-Bit Drum Samples (kick, snare & hi-hat)
  • 24-bit / 44.1 kHz WAV
  • 32 MB

More Sound Info

The instruments in this pack make use of a wide range of sound design techniques, including tremolo, retriggering, pseudo-delay, chorus, and vibrato. Some of the lead instruments feature a very short fade-in attack that creates a metallic, plucked character.

The kick and snare drum samples are created by combining a triangle wave with the attack portion of a noise sound. On the original hardware, the triangle wave channel was also used for the bass line, so triggering a drum sound would very briefly interrupt the bass to play a short tonal burst before immediately returning to the bass note. Because this interruption is extremely short, it is generally imperceptible, allowing the drums and bass to feel seamlessly connected.
