Magic Mushrooms 3: Notes is a collection of NES-style 8-bit sample instruments inspired by the music of Super Mario Bros. 3, capturing the game’s expanded and highly varied musical palette. This pack reflects the wide range of stage styles found throughout the game, from upbeat overworld themes and swinging forest rhythms to icy melodic textures, underground grooves, and dramatic airship and boss music. The pack includes expressive lead and stab instruments, supportive bass, and an expanded selection of 8-bit drum and percussion samples, including timpani, bongos, woodblocks, and more.

A wide variety of instrument and drum types are used in this pack, reflecting the expanded sound palette of the series. Some of the note samples use changing pulse widths during the attack phase to create a plucked character, similar to a banjo-like articulation. Nearly all of the drum samples in this pack are derived from processed acoustic recordings, intentionally made lo-fi to emulate the character and limitations of the original playback hardware.
