Arpeggios are an essential component of chiptune music, and the 8-Bit Arpeggios pack is the ultimate collection of 8-bit sample instruments featuring all the core arpeggio types:

More Sound Info
Due to the limitations of early sound chips, arpeggios were often used as a substitute for chords. With only three tracks available for melodic notes, composers needed to simulate chords while still having a melodic lead on one track and a bass line on another. To achieve this, they used fast arpeggios to 'trick' the brain into perceiving chords. Since these weren’t true chords—where multiple notes are played simultaneously—arpeggios also added movement and energy to the music, making them popular to use in compositions for games.
